Designed for
the thrill seeking customer, the
all-new sporty Fabia RS is derived from the successful
Fabia WRC and rounds off the Fabia range. Apart from its
striking, aggressive appearance, the most exciting and
unique feature of this performance hatch is its choice
of power unit.
The
Engine
The
Fabia
RS is
driven by a 1.9 litre 130bhp turbo charged diesel engine.
The technology also known as TDI gives
the RS breath taking acceleration while delivering extraordinary
fuel economy (up to 62.7mpg). In
the Performance Hatch niche market, cars of this type
are extremely rare.
The
Transmission
The
power unit is
linked to a slick 6-speed transmission. The 6-speed gearbox makes
optimum use of the engine’s output, harnessing the massive 310Nm of
Torque produced (a Porsche Boxster only delivers 260Nm!)
Interior
Design
The
sporty cabin of the Fabia RS is nothing less than what the discerning
driver expects from a car of this type; luxurious sports
seats upholstered in new ‘cross-tuck’ upholstery offer the driver a
high level of both comfort and support. The backrests of the front
seats bear the Škoda Motorsport emblem, emphasising both Škoda’s long
history in motorsport and the roots of this model’s development.
Once settled into the
sports seats, the driver will appreciate the leather bound three-spoke
sports steering wheel and leather bound gear knob and handbrake grip.
Also exclusive to the Fabia RS is the silver background in the
instrument cluster, which draws the driver’s attention to important
information given by the speedometer, rev-counter, fuel and temperature
gauges.
With all of this talk
of the performance oriented interior, one could be forgiven for
thinking that we have left out the creature comforts - They are all
there too! Front
electric windows, heated and electrically operated door mirrors, remote
central locking (with deadlock facility), CD player and an on-board
trip computer are all standard equipment
Exterior
Design
Like its
stable
mate,
the Octavia RS, the Fabia RS has been given a distinctive, aggressive
appearance. This is evident from the new front and rear bumper design;
both are deeper (reminiscent of the Fabia WRC) with the front bumper
incorporating small but powerful round fog lights. Extra air vents
ensure a sufficient supply of air to both the engine and the front
brakes.
Moving to the rear of
the Fabia RS, a new spoiler has been developed and fitted across the
top of the rear windscreen – this is exclusive to the RS model and
along with the stainless steel exhaust trim, easily distinguishes it
from the rest of the Fabia range.
Finally, thanks to
its sports tuned suspension, the Fabia RS sits a full 15mm lower than
the standard car. Keeping you in steady contact with the road are
16-inch RS alloy wheels with 205/R45/16 tyres – and of course, in true
Škoda RS fashion…green brake callipers!
